Welcome! It seems that music has always been a part of my life. Prior to COVID-19, I was an active local musician, performing in church, The Valley Winds Community Band and my own bands (The Second Hand Brass Band/Jazz Band, The Stingaree Society Orchestra, & The United Swing Orchestra). I also co-produced the monthly Speakeasy at The Merc concert series at The Old Town Temecula Community Theater. In the past, I have played in our local orchestra and pit orchestras for musical theater productions. I'm not the only musician in my family -- my wife and two daughters are also musicians.
I grew up just down the road in Escondido, where I started formal training on violin in 5th grade, then switched to the saxophone in 6th grade. I continued to study music in high school and college, minoring in Music Performance at CSU Chico. Teaching general and instrumental music at the elementary, middle, and high school levels required that I learn all band instruments and pass background checks. In 2012 I began offering lessons on the Clarineo, a clarinet-like instrument for kids who are too young and/or small to play the clarinet and am proud to serve as an Ambassador for their products (more info at www.nuvo-instrumental.com).
I believe that public performance hones our musical abilities and confidence and encourage students to perform in front of audiences as often as possible. My students participate in studio recitals, local youth symphonies, honor bands, musical theater pit orchestras, festivals, and competitions. Several have gone on to major in music in college. Occasionally, my advanced students "sub" for me when I can't make a rehearsal or performance. I enjoy sharing my love of music with my family and students. Let's play!
