I teach students age 10 to adult. At this time, all lessons are taught online via Zoom or Google Meet. Please assemble your instrument and warm up prior to our lesson time so we can get right to work. Please make sure your instrument is in good playing condition and have the music we're working on and a pencil. Reed players (oboe, clarinet, & saxophone) should have at least 2 good reeds at all times. Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons.

During a typical lesson I cover
  • Music theory & history
  • Proper tone production & technique
  • Scales
  • School music
  • Exercises, solos and/or small ensemble literature
  • Popular or jazz pieces
  • Audition & performance skills, confidence, & psychology
  • Long tones

Initial lessons focus on mastering school music and I usually assign some supplemental exercises, solos, and duets. Mastering school music is our top priority but we tend to spend less time on school music as the student's skills and confidence develop. Students will occasionally be asked to purchase music.

I reserve lesson time specifically for each student and send reminder texts or emails the day before our lesson. Lessons that start late will be billed at the regular rate and end at the scheduled time. If you're more than 15 minutes late and you don't let me know, I'll assume you're not coming and may leave the studio. Please let me know ASAP if you're running late or the need to cancel or reschedule arises. Calling/texting my cell phone is the best way to reach me: (951) 302-9755. Missed lessons with no advance notice will be billed at the regular rate. If I miss a lesson without giving you advance notice, the lesson I missed and your next lesson are free.

Weekly lessons are not required but they are encouraged and given priority over bi-weekly (every other week) lessons. Students who take bi-weekly lessons may lose their lesson time to a weekly student.
